Everytime I do a water change I cant help but get worried that all of my fish will be ok. I always add stress coat, but then I have to monitor them for a bit too make sure everyone is handling it. I know this is so weird... anyone else get worried about water changes?

not usually.

I've noticed after a point of learning I started getting more worried as i knew all the problems, then I started worrying less and noticed I've been doing better

No i never get worried, in fact i feel relieved i've got the water change done as keeping up with water changes are one of the most important parts of fish keeping :) .
Years ago when i first started fish keeping i got realy nervous when i cleaned the tank out but now its easy; as long as you don't take ages doing it, its not a problem.

As long as you are adding de-cholinated water, and being careful not to stir up the subtrate when cleaning, everything should be fine. I don't think I ever really worried about it because I was very new to it, and I was told that I had to do water changes. If I had to, the fish must not mind, right?

Next time you know you need to do one, make sure that you time it so that you are going out afterwards and can't watch them. When you get home, everything will be just fine!

I'm sure the fish really enjoy some fresh water (like us opening a window and enjoying some fresh air!)...so relax and 'enjoy' it with them!!!

Only a little worried that my husband will break the tank in his frantic attempts to get the gravel vacuum started. I'm sure there is a technique to this and one day he will master it. In the meantime, it's nice to see him take an interest, it's got to be good exercise for him- the fish only look mildly intrigued.

angry platy- before I took up fishkeeping for the second time I used to completely wash the tanks. .. 100% water changes. I was little, it was before I had internet to learn about fishkeeping etc.

dwarf gourami- there are many little "tricks" to starting a syphon, all of them one way or another get the tube full of water so that gravity can do its thing. I keep the waste end in the bucket, the cleaner end in the submersed in the tank but upside down. I lift it up so that water starts drain down the tubing. I then dunk it back down still upside down so it fills with water. voila syphon started.

Yeah, but only about trashing the carpet if I spill my syphoned tank water everywhere! :X

The missus would freak!! :p

Not greatly, the thing that worries me most is my new betta. He seems to enjoy making me think he's dead... Grr....

Why should you be careful not to stir up the substrate?

I get worried that i am upsetting the fish...

Water changes don't really worry me.
Except when I am doing the fry tank...always afraid I am going to suck up a fry! But, that has never happened, so I'm getting more comfortable with it.
