Hi. Having trouble lifting 5 gal buckets up to my tank now as it is 5' high to the top. Was using a power head to pump it up but was taking too long as I do a minimum off 35 gallons at a time. Have read on here that you can add the appropriate amount of de-chlorinater proportionate to the water change into the tank directly, then add water via a hosepipe pipe straight into the tank. If the taps are balanced to give a suitable temperature is this method safe? I was worried about any harmful plasticiser leaching from the pipe and into my tank. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You can certainly dose for the tank volume rather than the added water volume as that's standard practise.

I've never given plasticisers much thought though. I think any hose would be fish safe but wouldn't want to bet money on it long term.

You can definetly dose the full tank. But buy dosing only the new water you'll save de-chlorinator.But if you rather not have the hassle dosing the tank is quite possible.

That's exactly what I do. I use a powerhead to pump water out via a hose, then just connect to the tap to refill. I actually made a tutorial on how to do it, linked in my sig, if you were wondering about any of the finer details.

Thanks, will check out the link and appreciate all the replies. :good:
