Water Changes

At present i have been doing a weekly 25 litre water change on my 200 litre tank. I have been thinking about doing a 50 litre water change every two weeks.
Just wondering what other peoples thoughts are on this?

60 litres once a week would be better

i've cut down slightly now im not dosing ferts daily, to 1/3 of the tank per week.

Ok. I was always under the impression that a weekly 10 percent or two weekly 20 percent water change as sufficient? I am happy to change more water but didnt expect to do a 60 litre change every week

I have 12 neon tetras, 6 panda corys and three assasin snails, so not heavily stocked yet although i intend to stock a few more fish in a couple of weeks or so

30% weekly is about right. i do 40% a week

As others have said it depends on many factors. I do at least 50% a week. Most my tanks have heavy bioloads so they need it. One thing though is you can never change too much water.

some guy was trying to persuade my dad to get me to do bi monthly water changes LOL saying it was better for fish. not my fish thank you very much !

Rob I am not doing the same as others here. I use my nitrate readings to help me determine amounts and frequency of water changes. My target is to keep nitrates at less than 20 ppm above tap water values at all times. Each tank is its own thing depending on stocking levels. Some get frequent large water changes, the relatively overstocked ones, while others get less frequent smaller water changes, the lightly stocked ones. There is really no "rule" that will always work. It all depends on what you have in livestock vs. the tank size.
