Hi Everyone,

Ok, so I have read lots of informative threads on weekly tank maintenence and minimum amounts for water changes but what about maximum amount? Im thinking the more the better as you are removing any possible toxins from the water? Im generally thinking of once weekly changes here, 20%, 50% 90%?

Any of them are harmless as long as the water replaced on the larger amounts closly match the original tank temp, average of about 30-40% weekly should be sufficient.

i personaly do 50% a week, but more % and more frequently if my test kit indicates i need to do so!!

90% is excessive i think, unless you have bad water i suppose.

just make sure you give it a good vac!!

I'm with Mark1979 on this. I do 50% a week, it keeps the fish happy and gives me a workout at the same time. :good:

On my 300L tank I change approximately 80L per week (8x 10L buckets, but usually filled about the 10L line!), which is about 25%.

However of course there is unlikely to actually be 300L of water in the tank, and taking out the 80L seems to drop the water level by about a third to a half, so who knows.
All I know is that the fish seem happy & are breeding, the water stats are good, the plants are growing well, and changing 8 buckets of water doesn't swing the water temperature of the tank too much, (I am unable to temp match teh water without extreme use of the kettle, so I tend to just fill with dechlorinated cold water).
