Hi all, i recently did a 25% change on Saturday 18 at 9pm because my fish were flicking on plants and stones and just wondering if i should do another water change today (monday) as my water testing kit will not arrive until wednesday....

thanx for the help!!

If they are flicking that means they are ill. I think thats the start of ich? You'll need to medicate the tank.

Do not medicate the tank unless there are definate signs of the illness.

Look for other signs of infection such as tiny white spots like grains of salt, if they are there, then treat for ich. anything else, then post details of what.

In the meantime, so long as you are treating your water with dechlorinator, then a water change shouldn't hurt.

Hi there, on 1 out of 9 of the platty's there are 3 tiny fadded white spots on his tail (not pure white) so it could be ich or it could be just part of the fish...maybe i could do a 100% water change? and see if it stops as i dont want to kill them with meds (i rasied them from fry)

Thanx for all the help! :)

I think that if the fish already has something (like ich or anything else), then doing a 100% water change will just stress the fish more, and not get rid of the problem. It may worsen it by stressing the other fish and making them more suscecpible to infection also.

I would keep the water changes smaller, like 20-25% maybe? Platys are pretty hardy, but I will still not change over 1/3 of the water unless I really needed to.

I just dd a 2/3 water change so I can move my 29 gallon, and I feel badly for doing that. I just couldn't move the tank with more water in it though, and only had so many containers hold tank water in.

Hi there, i recently did a 25% change on Saturday 18 at 9pm, do you think i should do another one today (monday) ?. I will be buying a API water testing kit on friday so i can find out if my water quality is ok and see if i have to add meds

If you're worried about the water quality before you get the test kit to verify it - I would do a 15-20% water change today, and one on Wednesday. That should be plenty to get you by until Friday, when you plan on getting the testing kit.
