Water Change

I do 20% weekly, sometimes fortnightly on a 20 UKG. My water has always been spot on! I could go longer, I think. Wouldn't wan't to chance it, and besides, Pleco poo is most unsightly.

Depends on circumstances: my usual is 25% a week, but will do more under special circumstances, like in the cory tank during hot weather, when i have fry etc. On the other hand, I do leave it for a fortnight when I go on holiday- but then they are fed short rations.

I change my water 25% middle of the week and 25% on a sunday, my tank is well stocked, with inverts (filter feeders, algae eaters and one (my fav) blue lobster called slyvester hes 6inch now, he was 3 when i got him) and fish (clowns corys and a discus called pumpkin who im trying to save as the lfs i got him from isnt so good! infact its terrible, check my post in the "what u dislike about fishkeeping" topic).

My tank is a planted 1 and has an external internal and a gravel filter, so i guess its down to the person, but i think there shld be at least 1 water change a week, my tank seems to be prospering my shrimps breed ect.

So, i personally am happy with 50% a week broken up.

:) ok,so I have a ?? How is it that water can have stale "air" :/ I have been trying to figure this out. Does anybody have an answer?

Its a metaphor...

The water change is to remove nitrates from your tank....

nitrates kill fish.

if your locked in a room with no fresh air Co2 builds up

Co2 kills people.....

:) I was told by a person on another forum, that they have a 45 gal. tank with 30 small fish and has never done a water change just added R.O. water as a top off.

:) Just like to find out how often those you that have a mature tank change the water. Once a week? Two times a week? Once a month? How often?

Thanks for your reply.
I feel a weekly to 10 day change is always a great idea. The percentage is what I would consider varying not the frequency; I do from 10-35% weekly changes.

I would consider the toxic compounds that build up in the tank that are NOT detectable by any common aquarium tests.

Cheers
