Hi Everyone!

Is changing the water once a mth safe? And usually when it hits the 2 wks mark, my water level will drop. Can i just do a top-up?

And, will changing 5-10% of the water every one week a better option??

Help!! Tks in Advance!

smaller more frequent water changes are ussualy better than large ones and no topping it off would not do anything. gooodluck :)

of course make sure to use dechlor in top off water or water change.  20%-25% water change a week is recommended

For most aquariums, particularly heavily stocked ones like yours, doing water changes only once a month will result in unsafe waste accumulation and stress on the fish. Even two weeks is usually too long and can cause a decline in water quality over time. A water change of ~25% each week is the norm for maintaining a healthy tank.

I certainly need to understock my tank in order to do less water changes. The 'understocking' will also help in other issues too I hope.

Even for tanks with very few fish, once weekly water changes are the best idea because they help eliminate nitrates which do not leave aquariums naturally. We change water once a week to sauté that the water isn't gradually building up to a dangerous level of toxins. Really, water changes are not a big deal, particularly if you keep on top of them. I rather enjoy tank work like this myself. It's relaxing, going through these motions.
