Hi All,

Just a quick few questions.

I'm going to be making sure I do atleast 1 waterchange every 1-2 weeks from now on, admitidly I am useless at remembering these things and suddenly realised a few days back I hadn't done one in about a month, thankfully my tank wasn't heavily stocked and all seemed ok!

My questions are:

1) Is it true that pouring water into a bucket and leaving it overnight THEN putting it into the tank will help a lot with levels?

2) I'm always consious about the heat of water i'm putting into the tank to not shock the fish, is putting boiling water mixed with the cold water in the bucket from the kettle ok?

Thanks :)

1) i dont think it makes any diffrence. people do it so they can use cold water and by the next day it will be room temp so it wontbe as much of a shock to the fish

2)i know people say you shouldnt use water from the hot tap but i always have and never had a problem. if your worried about it then useing a kettle should be fine. if you only doing a small water change you can just use cold water and it wont make to much diffrence to the temp.

I usually just do the 1 bucket full every 1-2 weeks so probably under 30% over that period. Thanks for the info :)

leaving the water to stand in a bucket for 24 hours will hel to gas off the chlorine but not chloramines , so its best to use a dechlorinator
as for the temperture , a change of 20 to 30% should only cause a small drop in temperature. but with larger changes i use some hot to just take the edge off a bit .

I always do a water change 1-2 weeks. I use hot and cold water to get the right temperature and put dechlorinater in it. This has had no effect on the fish, the probable don't even notice a change. leaving it out over night as most people have said will evacuate most of the gases. I have not used anything like this in my other tank, just put cold water in it and left it, it is still going now for 1 week before i put fish in there.
