What is the minmum water requirment in Litres for bala sharks?

Is 100lt not enough? I am reading somewhere on a parenting forum that a girl is keeping a few bala sharks in 100lt tank and I have just asked her how they are doing, if she asks why I just want to be sure when I say she hasnt got them in enough water..

Thanks

Rhiannon

I don't know what their minimum would be but 100L is definitely too small.. they get up to 12" long! I wouldn't put them in a tank smaller than 5x2x2' (560L) because they need to be in a group.

exactly what I thought. How cruel to put them in 100lt.

WHEN MY UNCLE BOUGHT HIS FIRST TANK IT WAS A 125 LITRE WITH A BRAVE LUMP OF A BALA SHARK IN IT. IM SURE IT WAS ABOUT 7 INCHES AND IT HAD BEEN IN THE TANK FOR YEARS.

I have two sharkies in my 180 litre tank... they are doing quite fine actually! I have had them for over a year and have had no problems with them.

Bala sharks need a lot more than a 100litre tank in the long term, but if the sharks are still very small the tank could be used as a temporary short term tank no problem.

Yeh, but they can grow to 12" (30cm), some more, and will require at least 100 gallons.

I know and thats why i said "Bala sharks need a lot more than a 100litre tank in the long term" but also add that "if the sharks are still very small the tank could be used as a temporary short term tank no problem".

If your bala sharks are only something like 2inches long, then a 100litre long tank could be used to hold them for a short while no problem, but the tank would need to be upgraded in the near future to something a lot larger as they grow, i would personally advise upgrading to a 5ft long by 18inch wide and 2ft high tank minimum if you are to keep the sharks in the long run.

Sorry I didn't mean to say it in that way :good:
