Washing Sand

I've been washing the play sand(60#) that I bought for my new brackish tank for the last 3 days and it still pretty dirty. Do I have to wash it until the water becomes totally clear? Is that possible? Is it totally necessary to wash the sand? I mean it's 100% sand w/ no additives. My tank is about 30 feet from the nearest sink which doesn't make it any easier.

I washed my play sand outside, it took about 4 hours.

The water should run fairly clear.

It'll be worth it trust me.

edit: 3 days may be a bit much though... what method are you using?

Try washing smaller amounts of it. The more dirt you get now the easier it is to get it to look right in the aquarium.

I scoop a big bowlful at a time and washing it. It'd be nice to wash it outside but it's 5 degrees outside. Brurrrrrr
