hi, i have just taken delivery of a large bag of coral sand, and i was wondering how much i need to wash it?

does it only need a quick rinse, or a real good washing and soaking?

I ould just wash it like any other sand or gravel... stick it in the buccket, pour water into bucket, swoosh sand around, pour water out and repeat until water runs out clear.....

right cheers, i was just curious having never used the stuff.

thanks for your help.

I have Coral sand in one of my tanks, I treated it like any other gravel, in a bucket and rinse through until water run clear

you could use the power shower
is you have one it makes it a lot quicker

Is the sand ok filter wise or does the filter become more clogged up? (external canister). When adding to a filled tank just pour in and wait to settle or drain the whole tank as much as possible?

turn filter off put it
in the tank wait 2 or 3 mins
then turn back on should be ok
it shouldn't cloud up if its be washed
properly mine didnt

I have had coral gravel for a year or more now. If I remember rightly I rinsed it through a couple of times and it was fine. The water will fog up a bit for a while which will do no harm. Like cycling, it seems to take an age but in the scheme of things it's soon forgotten.

Coral gravel continually produces sand partials as in nature which you will find when you gravel vac. No problem :)

All good for Africans
