A few water companies are flushing their pipes this weekend, so you might want to ring them up and see if you're affected before doing a water change, if you are affected hold of the water change for a few days.

I think it's best not to do water changes at weekends, as the staff aren't there, that's the most likely time for untoward things to happen.

I was told once that they often put in extra chlorine in to tide over sunday, so if you do do sunday water changes, make sure you use an appropriate amount of dehlor.

I rang them up yesterday as the water pressure wasn't right, they told me that they were flushing the pipes and I asked them if they were using extra Chloramine, they said yes as well as another chemical which I can't recall the name of, they told me to wait a few days before using the water for aquatic life.

Standby what water board does your area come under? Ive heard this from a few different sources about Saturdays being a no no for water changes due to added chemicals. But my reckoning is that it must take a few days to flush through all the area they cover. So I've always assumed it will be so hard to judge if your affected.

I'm supplied by Severn Trent, I'm not sure how the network of pipes works and if it will be all areas run by Severn Trent affected but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

I just think that they will be so many times when chemicals are added that we don't know about that it won't be very productive to worry about the sameness of the water we are provided. I also think that if you ring the water companies up they are always going to be cautious about what they tell you just to watch their own backs.

Hmm, was planning to do water changes on the 560l (already emptied 50% of tank this morning), 130l and 54l today. Did a 50% water change in the 240l on Friday afternoon, must confess I don't bother measuring out Seachem Prime for each bucket of fresh water, a capful (5ml) is typically mixed into at least 80l, so I'm more than double-dosing.

I was planning a wc for today. Think I'll ring them but I still need to do it: plants will hate me if I dont! And I always use extra prime: 2 caps for a 240l so about 1.7x dose I think?

never knew this. I always do mine on a sunday, for some reason lately I noticed every Friday our water is slightly brown.

I usually compensat by double dosing dechlorinator on a saturday/sunday, seems to do fine.

Still I always use treatment and dechlorinator after each change. Should that be ok?

Also, I tend to make up a store of water for changes, and keep it in an older water dispenser
