Are you sure you don't have an airlock. Have you tried holding it upside down at the bottom of the tank or placing your finger over the exhaust for 1-2 seconds while running?

Or maybe just take it back to ask LFS opinion?

hmmm..i havent tried that, all i did was take it apart and mess about with it, i'll try that, but my god, my oen is the worst filter i have ever owned, so loud

also, whats an air lock?

an airlock is a bubble inside the filter so that the impeller isn't running smoothly (chattering)

Hi, glad it solved your problem.

I know some pumps can be noisy but unless it's a REALLY cheap one they shouldn't be too bad. My powerhead for my trickle filter is at it's worst just after major dismantling and cleaning but ususlly settles down after a day or so.

Always best to ask advice before dissing a manufacturer

for some reason it is only not noisey when upside down....but ah well
