RIP Mercedes (my blue delta). I lost one of my favorite bettas today. She seemed perfectly healthy and active right up to the end. The only cause that I can think of is that we had unusually high temperatures last week (high 90's). Her tank temperature went up to 85° when it's usually around 72°. Then the temperatures outside dropped to the mid 70's and the tank dropped back down to it's usual 72°. She lived in a 2-1/2 gallon, unheated, filtered tank. Could the drastic temperature changes within a few days have killed her?

:rip: Mercedes. It may have stressed her out, but I don't think it would have killed her...

No, that probably didn't kill her.... it might've weakened her and allowed something else to kill her, but yeah, that wasn't too dramatic a change.
