I've always hankered after blue fish and as I have only half a dozen clown loaches and not much else in my new 4ft tank now could be the time!

Can anyone suggest nice bright blue fish that will live happily with my wonderful loaches?

The loaches are my favourite fish so please don't suggest anything that will upset them or worse - eat them! -_-

Links to habitat / environment / feeding advice with pictures if possible and a bit of your experience (if you keep them) would be very much appreciated.

I've seen a pic of a Maingano and it was a very nice colour but I know nothing about them (except that they have a proper name which is unpronounceable and are often mistaken for something else).

P.S. Please DON'T say get a betta - sorry all you betta lovers - I just don't like the look of 'em, so I didn't even both to read if they would live with loaches.

What size tank? Just off the top of my head, I'd say a neon blue dwarf gourami or if you have more room, a full size blue gourami would work too.

A betta. :p

Just kidding. Anyways, I think the Gourami's would be a good addition to the tank. I keep Pearl Gourami's with my Clowns, and while they aren't blue, they get along great with them.

You could also try a school of Blue Danios. I just got 3 of these guys, in teh long finned variety and they are absolutely gorgeous. They are a subtle blue, but you can definitely tell it's there.

Now I'm not an expert on Cichlids, but I believe a pair of Blue Rams would be great too.

Blue dwarf gouramis. easily available, loach compatable and stunning.

Here's one of ours.

I have 2 Neon Blue Dwarf Gouramis in my tank along with 3 clown loaches, and they all get along great while adding color to the tank. They look just like the pics posted above!

blue fish are a tough one. i was looking for that too a while back. since my tank was too small for cichlids, i went with a blue gourami (wanted something bigger tahn a dwarf gourami). wouldn't recommend cichlids with your clowns, so a gourami would be a nice touch. theres the blue gourami and the opaline (blue with dark stripes). theyre a lighter blue, but its still blue :D

I have two clown and one orange finned loach in a 55 gallon tank alongside a Lombardoi cichlid, which is blue with black vertical stripes, a 5 stripe cichlid blue with 5 vertical stripes and a blue three spot gourami. They have lived together since May without incident.

How about these...
