When I first started this tank, back in July I believe, it was pretty bare. I got a few plants from Petco.

2 Amazon Swords
1 Water Wisteria
1 Java Fern
1 Anubias Nana

I must say I not impressed with the Java Fern as it tend to turn black and it is not black algae. It just turns black. I read this was normal. But if I had known that before hand I would probably for sure have skipped it.

After about a month or so I took out that center resin decoration and added real wood instead. All those little plants behind the rock wall thing are pieces that broke off the Water Wisteria and rooted floating around. So I planted them

This is what it looked like today before I removed the Amazon Sword that is in the back...

I have already harvested the Water Wisteria and stocked my 75 gallon with the cuttings. And it needs cut and trimmed again. I just don't know what to do with all of it!! LOL All that Water Wisteria grew, in just 5 months, from that 1 little plant you see in the first picture. The Amazon Swords grew well too, but nothing like the Water Wisteria has.

Below is the picture of what it looks like now with one of the Amazon Swords taken out.

Flourish Comprehensive folks...until I found out about that stuff I never got plants to grow this well.

Is the rhizome on the java above the substrate?

Yes the java fern is attached to the wood, it is not buried. I don't understand why it turns black, but it has grown at bit. Although no where near as fast as the water wisteria or amazon sword.

As far as lighting goes, it is a " Life Glo 18 inch bulb. 6700°K high-noon full-spectrum bulb"

And the weird thing is, I never could get water wisteria to live for me, ever, in my 55 gallon. I had such good luck with this tank that I bought another one from Petco, ( in those tubes ) and has grown like mad too. It is not as bushy, but it has farther to grow to reach the surface. So I knew it would not spread out as quickly, but it is growing. On the 55 gallon, I have 2 lights, on one side of the tank a Life Glo, just like in the 10 and on the other side is an Aqua Glo.

The Aqua Glo brings out the color of the fish better, but I know the Life Glo is really good for plants, or so I was told, and obviously it is true. LOL So anyway it has both and the plant life in it is doing great too. I have a ball of hornwort that is floating at the surface on one side of it. Although it looks a bit odd to me, the fish love it! They swim in and out of it, and all around inside it, and nibble at it. And that whole ball of it grew from just 12 little pieces about an inch or so long , that I salvaged after the black algae pretty much killed it all. I can't believe how it is grown either.

Good Lord!!! That's amazing!!!!!!! Super Lush! Way to go!

I just installed a life glo 18 inch fluorescent bulb for my 35 gallon tall hex tank. Hope I have a good a luck with it as you have had.

I hope so too. Good luck!

I think the Flourish Comprehensive and the light worked together on this. I say this because in my 75 gallon I have the Aqua Glo light instead of the Life Glo and the plants are thriving in it too. But I am using the Flourish Comprehensive in the 75 gallon. So that is why I think a lot of it has to do with the Flourish as well.

I would like to someday get another light fixture to run a Life Glo in the 75 as well as the Aqua Glo, like I am doing in my 55 gallon. I love the look of the fish under the Aqua Glo. But it is supposed to really good for growing plants as well. So if the plants in the 75 keep doing well, then I will probably just let well enough alone.

What are the dimensions of your 10 gallon tank, and what kind of top is on the tank under the light? I am looking to upgrade my tank's lighting situation.

Wow, looks great!

I'm going to have to get me some of that Flourish Comprehensive!

The tank is just a standard 10 gallon. 20 long, 10 wide and 12 tall

It is a glass top and just regular lighting fixture with a T8 , 18 inch Life Glo bulb
