Well I have several tanks but most of them are housing single bettas. The bettas get the most attention and, I'm afraid, I've been neglecting my larger tanks :( (not on maintenance...I always keep up on the water changes, water testing, etc) I think that one reason is the tanks are so boring. Mainly my 65 gallon. Currently it houses 1 female swordtail, 4 female platies, some platy fry, 2 otos, some endlers, and 1 common plec. I don't want to add too many fish, but I'm thinking about adding 2 or 3 larger fish. My husband really likes Angel fish, but I'm not too sure they are compatible with what I have. Will they eat my little endlers? I thought about some Gouramis. I saw some pretty red colored ones, (think they were called Sunset or something like that) today. Would they be ok with what I have now? Can they be kept in groups or do they get aggressive? Is there something else that would work? Just really looking for a medium sized fish (larger than a platy, but nothing that will outgrow my tank).

Angel fish will eventually eat anything they can catch and get in their mouths. If you get them small though, they may be ok if they grow up with the other fish but there's no way to know for sure. I've had my 4 angels now for 2 years and they are about 3" long. I don't think they could eat anything as large as 1" though. There's nothing in the tank small enough for them to eat though so I haven't had to worry about it.

I had read (whether its true or not) that if the neons are in the tank first and you get young enough angels...then they grow up in their presence and ignore them.
This is what I did - same as poster above - and all good so far.
My biggest angel now has a body about 4" x 4" and could easily eat them but doesnt.
Doesnt even seem to notice them!

But I believe (again could be wrong) that Angels eat Neons in the wild?
So either I have just been lucky......so far.... eek!?
or, she has no instincts at all lol.

That is correct. Angels will generally eat anything they can get in their mouth. If there is lots of cover for the smaller fish to hid in, they will generally be ok but there are no guarantees.

However, angelfish have tiny mouths, so keep that in mind. My gouramis always eat any new fry hatched in the tank, i've seen them actually do it. my angel is much slower than the gouramis and has a much smaller mouth, so i not consider an angel a threat to your endlers. adding angelfish is probably better decision than gouramis. my gouramis are opaline gouramis, by the way. hope this helps.
