ive had to put some carbon in my filter to remove a medicine added to treat internal bacteria, will the carbon remove the TPN+ and easycarbo too?

A tiny tiny tiny bit, so much that it isn't worth talking about. You'll be frequently dosing anyway.
Activated carbon is readily used in planted tanks and I recommend them. I'm soon to receive Zeo-carb, a prouct made by Fluval that consists of activated carbon and zeolite. It's quite popular for planted tanks.

i have a box of zeo-carb, the carbon im using is by rena called bio chem zorb. it sounds a very similar thing to zeo-carb.
how long do you keep it in before throwing away as alot of people say its useless after about a week and leaches the chems back into the tank.
because of this i have always removed and threw it away after a week after dosing a medicine. this surely would start to get very expensive if replaced every week......!

Weekly? Hahaha, no. They don't know what they are talking about.
A few months is fine for a rough guide. Depends how well stocked the tank is because obviously the more organic waste in the tank, the quicker the pours get filled up.
No, it doesn't leach substances back into the water, that is a myth that keeps getting circulated ;)

Found this link for those interested about activated carbon.
I know it's reef orientated but the info still applies.

cheers radar thats good to know mate, ill leave it in the filter then :good:

i seem to be getting a bit of brown slime on the glass like the stuff you get when cycling a tank or on new set ups...

any ideas?

been dosing 6ml easycarbo and 4ml TPN+ in a 240L

Increase the dosing of both. 8ml of each, daily. Manually scrape away the algae. Might be time for a water change too. Brown diatoms is caused by excess light, not enough ferts, tiny concentrations of ammonia.

i will up the ferts then, thanks.

i am still doing weekly water changes of about 25% and carried out a 40% change yesterday and cleaned any diatoms etc off the glass.

thanks again,

Matt

Good work. I'm sure you will start to see a difference soon.
