argh!

oh!

eeeekkk!!!

Statler is a male!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he's fertilising the eggies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you have any idea how happy i am?

:hyper:

what do i do????

do i take the pot out before he gobbles them all. everytime he passes over he nabs some, then she lays more, then he flaps over them and takes another gob full

oh oh oh oh oh??

A lot of cichlids eat thier fist spawn(oscars are particularly prone to it). I wouldnt bother trying to save them the first time. Are you devo sure they are opposite sexes as often 2 females will lay together.

definatly male and female, she has a tube like 'bits' where the eggs come out and he has what i can only describe as a small spear/spike shaped point! (((little fishy willy)))

well did some super fast searching and found a site which tells you how to 'save' oscar eggs. so using tank water, a large plastic container and an air pump, i have set up an oscar egg hatchery. getting the pot out of the oscar tank was a feat in itself..........wow are they protective!!!! i feel so guilty taking it, even if they did attack me!!!
i can only try! if i left them and the oscars didnt eat them all, the catfish or crayfish may of! i have the room for if they hatch so, here goes!!!!

in just a few hours i'll know if the eggs are fertile, and if they are in just three days we may see some hatching!!!!!!!

wow congrats, atleast you know now the violence was for a reason,
sounds good, if they hatch they hatch, if not do not fear, as T said cichlids always eat there first batch 99% of the time, but once they start they will protect themselves, so next time leave it to them to deal with, they have to learn at some point,,,,,
so happy for you,,,

well got up early to check the egg, no mould (phew!) and only a few are still white (unfertilised?) the rest are a slightly darker/tan colour now. mum and dad (!) are not happy with me still, everytime i walk past they stick their spikes up at me. oops! im sure they'll love me again at dinner time!

I wouldnt add any methlane blue, it kills filter bacteria and you dont want that at this time. Just relax and let nature take its course. I woke up to hundreds of texas cichlid fry
