OK, i mentioned before on a post that i work at the wal-mart here in town and i'm trying to convince the store manager that we need someone who will come in at least 4 days a week primarily to clean out the fish tanks. (mainly because there are soooooooo many fish in one small tank, they need it.).

so, my request is to get some of you guys to write letters of why you believe that wal-mart needs someone who can take care of these fish properly. And tell them what you think of them. Not in a cuss them out way, just in a like professional way. i'm trying to type up my ideas and put some statistics in about how many fish die a year, and how they can reduce this, and increase the profits(i mean, you have to add that in somewhere or else they won't go for it. )

lol, i was hoping that some one would suggest that if they had healthier fish, that they would buy more. I know this is a lot, but i'm trying to get them proof that they need to change their behavior.

I know this is a huge request, but i'm hoping that they will agree to this.
But, everyone who helps i would really appreciate it.
Thanks A LOT!
Diana

whats the walmart address? And the store manager's name? I'll write a letter :)

ok...sorry i was kinda thinking that you could post it online, but if you wanna write directly to him it would be great.
ok, the store's manager's name is John Watz
550 Old Franklin Tpke,
Rocky Mount, VA 24151

i'm in the process of making my presentation.

I can type you a letter, too.
I will be VERY civil too. :p
I will post it right here- but you must give me til tomorrow - it's way past my bedtime now.

I will also include in it how I have totally stopped buying everything at any WM because of the conditions of the fish.

Coming up tomorrow!

that's perfectly fine. i'm just glad you guys are willing to help me. lol...considering i'm new and all here. it's getting about my bed time too. but i'm still working on my research.

Totally off-topic, but that's the cutest little dog on your avatar

It's 1:45AM here so I'm not in any state of mind to be writing a letter right now, but perhaps you could appeal to their sense of professionalism? Walmart stores are generally pretty well run, but the fish section is like the fly in the soup... that one bad thing ruins your opinion of the store as a whole

yeah, true, it's a good idea. her name's snuggles. lol. i have 2 more like her(well all together I have 2 white and one black). she's a pekingese. she was the first pet I ever got. lol. I had to put that picture because it looked like she was posing for the camera.

That sounds like a great idea with potentially great results. I think that is a wonderful, constructive, professional and realistic approach!

Well, here goes my attempt....

Dear sirs,
I recently became one of a very largely growing group of individuals who have taken up fishkeeping as a hobby. I very much enjoy this hobby, and continue to expand my little "family" of fish as the weeks go by. I have frequented WalMart on several occasions, and until several months ago I used to purchase many items from WalMart. These items included everything from toothpaste to socks. In fact, I rarely went anywhere else to buy anything that your store might keep in stock, just for the sake of convenience.

However, since I have become interested in fish, whenever I go into a store that has fish or fish supplies, I always like to go look at the fish section to see if there is anything that my fishy friends might like to have for entertainment, food, or even to see if there are any fish that I'd like to purchase.

Due to recent events, and the discovery that I have made in many WalMart stores of the lack of proper care given to fish, I have decided to stop making purchases at all WalMart stores. Many times I have gone into a store, and there are dead fish in the tanks, or bettas who have not had their water changed out for days on end, or countless other problems with the fish that I believe one person who was dedicated to fish care only, even if it was only an hour or two each day, would immensely help to make the conditions of the fish much more desirable not only for the fish, but for the customer too.

I would being shopping at WalMart again once the conditions of the fish were changed and improved, or until WalMart decides to completely stop selling fish. Until that time, I have decided that I will give my business to other stores who don't sell fish, or ones that do and keep them in relatively good conditions.

Thank you for your consideration.

I think that makes your point quite well. Now the rest of us need to follow up so they get enough of these letters to really make them stop and think about the profits they are loosing.

Hi DB_Diana_Jack_8 :)

Since you are so new to TFF, I suspect you haven't seen this thread yet:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=87227&hl=

Rabbitlady is the manager of a very successful Walmart pet department and she posts here regularly. Perhaps if you get in touch with her, she might be able to give you some advice that will help you too. :D

DOH.... great suggestion.
I forgot about that.
Speaking of, I wonder if she's had that meeting yet..

I guess I'll go wander over to that thread :)

OH, and i forgot to mention what happened today at work...
Well, this woman comes through my line, she has a Vase (with instructions inside of it on how to put the betta in w/ the plants), 3 different types of plants and 3 bettas. So i got to her bettas and i couldn't keep it in any more so i said, "do you have any other fish?" and she was like, "oh i'm not going to put them together." and i was like, "no i mean, do you keep any other fish?" and she was like, "yeah i keep ....." and i was like, "oh thats neat."
well, for someone who knows a lot about keeping fish, it looks like she would think twice about putting these little fish in that vase...don't know, maybe she was still rather uneducated on those.

It's amazing how someone familiar with fish can still be so ignorant about Bettas. They treat them like they aren't fish at all, like they're something else entirely. It's unfortunate, but it's so terribly commonplace.
