if you are running firefox you can add on chatzilla
or you could try another irc program like mirc

ah you are trying to use the live chat link at the top of the page.
this is broken and apparently unfixable.

you would need to use your own IRC program which you will have to download onto your PC.
many people use Mirc which can be downloaded from here
As I use firefox, rather than IE, for my browser I use chatzilla which can be dowloaded from here
of course there are plenty of other options, just search google for IRC programs.
once you have one of them, let us know and we can help you through the set up process
to get you into chat.
