Has anyone dismantled an aquarium heater to wipe out some moisture?
It's visitherm so I see that there is a shroud which pops downwards, but i don't know
if the top is put in with silicone or similar so don't really want to break it.

P.S. I know some people will say "bin it" but I do all this fish keepingon a budget
with mostly second hand equipment and I like a challenge.

ok, I had a look and here's the answer:
there is a shroud which clicks in a downward direction, and an upper cap which you pull upwards
and along the wire. This reveals the actual top of the glass tube which appears to be filled
with a plastic or resin which provides the water tight barrier. From here you can check the condition of the seal and where the ac wire enters. The only thing you can't really check is the entry of the adjuster which goes to a
small square-pegged component.
Without changing the plastic or resin barrier in the top, there is no way to do any further repairs.
