Koi hasnt been well for weeks, had sb, so in shallower water. Now he is very quiet, he eats when I give him something but his belly has gone thin he looks as if he is starving. He is not as beautiful as he was...bless him...I cleaned him today and put his heater up a smidge..but not sure what meds to use?

I would have to move him again as he is in a plastic shallow container...I will go and have a word with him in a bit :hyper:

Sounds like internal parasites

From Healthybetta.com

Internal Parasites
Composed by: Crystal, Healthy Betta. Modified by: Rachel, Healthy Betta (2004).

CAUSES:

Internal parasites are quite sneaky as there is no real sign of illness. If you feed live foods, it is possible for your betta to get internal parasites.

DIAGNOSIS:

The only way you might be able to diagnose this problem before it is too late is to watch your betta. Take note of your betta and his daily activities. You will find they have routines and have a personality. If something changes slightly in these routines or they begin to not act like themselves, watch their weight.

Usually, but not always, your betta will be eating like normal but begin looking thinner. If your betta begins losing weight for no reason (and they do not have a lot to lose), treat your betta for internal parasites. Another common symptom of internal parasite is white and/or stringy feces.

TREATMENT:

First, do a complete water change (75% water change for a larger tank if you can't do the 100%).

Medication(s):

The most common medication suggested for internal parasites is Maracyn-Two, as this medication can be absorbed internally.

Medicated Food:

Medicated food is another common treatment method suggested for internal parasites, used in conjunction with a treatment in the tank. It should contain an anti-protozoa ingredient, such as Metronidazole. Pepso Food made by Jungle Labs is intended for internal parasites.

If your betta should die, scour and scald the tank or bowl he was in in order to prevent passing the parasite on to a new fish.

Remember, do not treat your betta with medication for an illness you are not completely sure of. If you are not sure if their symptoms match a particular illness, investigate further.

Additional procedures:

Added aeration may be beneficial for your betta while treating with medication to provide them with more oxygen.

Clean water is always important for a betta, but is especially beneficial for any betta facing an illness. You may find it helpful to change your betta's water more frequently while you are treating with any medication.

Always keeping your betta warm, between 76-82 degrees, will also help them to feel more comfortable and raise their immune system.
Also fish tb (tuberculsis (Sp?)) can cause a betta to look emaciated.

From bettatalk.com

SYMPTOMS:

Affected fish will start deteriorating for no apparent reasons, losing weight (or not), showing deformities (or not), having raised scales (or not), fin and body rot (or not), gray lesions (or not), red patches inside the belly (or not). Sometimes they will seem fine one day and be oh so very DEAD the next. The one thing all the bettas affected by this terrible diseases have in common is that they will all (as in every single last one of them) die. So if you suddenly find a large number of dead fish in your tanks, and more die each day, there is a strong possibility you might be at war with fish tuberculosis (careful though, other bacterial infections can also have similar dramatic death rates).
uTREATMENT:

I am sorry to break the news to you but you will NOT win that war because there is NO cure. Furthermore you will probably have to throw away all bowl, tank and fish gear because regular bleach does not kill this nasty bug. My advice? Stay away from live food and from sickly looking pet store bettas and as I said select your fish suppliers carefully. Oh, and do a lot of praying ;).

He dont look too good at this moment bless him.....

What does it look like when he goes to the toilet, check and anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Does he have any other symtoms.

when I cleaned him yesterday the poo just seemed very thin and nothing really, whereas with the others it is like little snails....

terrible photo but it was stressing him. You can actually see how thin he is but he is perkier than yesterday and asking for food.

He's pretty - I would also suggest treating for internal parasites...Petco/Petsmart carry internal parasite food - you'll probably want to get a chopstick or something to get to food down too him to convince him to eat...

Poor lil guy! Good Luck! :good:

:hyper: you have always been able to see through him a bit but this is what he was like..
