I have a bunch of fry who are about 2mths old, their mum was a pretty black & yellow tailed & dad was a yellow snakeskin, mum was born in my tanks, & was virgin when introduced to the male.

Most of the babies are black with yellow tails, some show a little snakeskin patterning, others are just plain, but one has grown into a really pretty little boy which I think must have some endler genes in there. He has a black spot on either side of his chest & some blue & yellow in his body colours, plus an orange horizontal stripe along his body, i've been trying to get a pic, but he's too fast!

Is it usual to have a bit of a genetic throwback in a brood? He seems to be the only one & I must admit this is the first time I have ever really watched the fry grow before rehoming & was surprised to see him.

What would any fry that he fathered look like? Would there be many like him or would they show more guppy colouring?

I think I need to buy myself a book on guppy genetics.

Yes it's perfectly normal to get a wild looking fish now and then.

Be nice to see some pic's if u can :)

thank you for your reply, I popped him onto the trap for a quick pic, its not a great one i'm afraid, he's a quick little thing. As you can see his colours are only just starting to develop, he will be a stunner in a couple of weeks.

thats a very young fish, the gonopodium it not yet fully developed, more colour will develop as well over next few week's but yes it dose look much like a wild guppie which is all down to genetics and your often see this
