Hiya, sorry for yet another post about pregnancy, I've read the post that OldMan did, but i'm still a bit confused and mine is a platy instead, She (lol verminator) has a white tube at the end of her anal fin, and the back end of her looks very \__/ << kinda like that, does that mean she's close? I have some pics, maybe you can tell?
another thing, she wasn't eating this morning and hiding in the corner, the male kept following her, I put her in a breeding trap and I'm almost positive she's gonna give birth today!

btw, you can't tell by the pics, cause I'm not a good photographer, but her back end is like as sharp squarish? as it can be, and I see the tube too, :/

That is one gender confused platy. You've possibly got a first there pal ;)

On a serious note, yes. It does indeed look like shes about to 'pop'. If you want to keep the fry you've done the right thing in placing her in the trap. Nature wil ldo the rest, she'll just keep popping them out frequently over the space of an hour or so and they'll drop down to the lower half of the trap (assuming you have the middle shelf) in place. I find some of the fry don't fit through without a bit of encouragement (usually the mum trying to eat them). Just sit back and enjoy the show mate. Make sure when she's done you take her out and place her back in the tank, they'll stop popping out after a long while and she'll look thin again. You can then take the dividing shelf out and give the fry the run of the trap :)

Okay! ya, I have the divider in place, so they'll fall to the bottom :p
I'll take her out as soon as she's done, I haven't checked on her in about 20 min, so I'm not even sure if she's started dropping yet, lol

I think shes got a while to go yet, just going by what all my platies looked like before dropping. But they can be smaller if theyre younger, as they have less fry. She does look quite square, but i think her front needs a much sharper angle yet. May just be me though.
Either way, dont leave her in the breeding trap for too long, it'll stress her out ;)

Yepp, if she doesn't give birth by the evening I'll take her out, it's already lunch time, :D

Hi there SimmsDude.
Your platy is well advanced along the path of a drop but I would guess her at still at least 4 days away from a drop and possibly as much as a week. In that situation, I would have nothing keeping me from placing her in a birthing tank but I would look for her being closer to a drop before putting her in a trap.
I have a personal dislike for traps so please don't take that as an absolute on my recommendation. Placing her in a trap may well induce her to drop early and within the 48 hours we usually allow for such things.
