Buy a corkscrew bottle opener.

Snap of the cork screw.

Done.

It doesn rust, weighs down large pieces of veg/fruit and costs about £1.

so simple yet so effective, maybe should of put it in the DIY section but still, good thinking

good idea,
also cheap stainless screws do the job too, and are a bit smaller. if you get the really cheap ones, you can pick them up off the floor of your tank with a magnet! the more expensive type are none magnetic though.

something i have been using recently though is "tie irons" 10 inch long bits of stainless steel, used to connect the two layers of a wall when house building. whilst it helps to work on building sites, these things are really useful. you can cut and bend them to any shape you like!

these particular ones are very tough, taking quite a bit of force to cut and bend. what they do is allow you to put small SS hooks around your tank, as opposed to having all your cucumber, or whatever, in one place. lol i also use a full one to hang new fish bags in the tank.

incidentally they are almost totally none reactive, being designed to work for many years in a ultra alkaline enviroment.
