dont know whats wrong tbh i have 3 plecs, 13 apple snails (all alive an moving), 1 siamese fighter, in a 2ft tank, i do a 10-20% water change each week, gravel vac once a week, its currently filtered via an aquaone internal filter capable of upto 3ft tanks??? the filter media is cleaned once a fortnight in seperate tank water.

I just cant understand why my water is smelling really bad, i have no ammonia, no ntrites and a reading of 16 nitrates, ph 7.2.

Can you describe the smell, rotten eggs or a sulphur smell.

tbh its not a sulphuric smell maybe a little eggy???? dont know lol

When your tank water dosn't smell like a earthy peat smell, it smell foul it can be a sign of a bad bacteria infection in your tank.
Plecs are massive waste producers and when you do a gravel vac and water change that can really smell.
Even a nasty going off chicken smell can be a bacterial problem.

In extreme cases you can smell bacteria. It smells bad. If your pond smells like sulfur or rotten eggs it’s a good bet that bacteria is running rampant in your system.

Is the heater touching the gravel perhaps?
I know that is what was wrong with my little 3 gallon.
I had pushed down the heater too much and the bottom of it was touching the gravel giving the water a VERY bad smell that filled up the room.
Numerous water changes is helping it go away.
