Hi, been awhile since i was last on here, so hello everyone. i've just had to move Frederick the green terror as he wont accept any other fish in the same tank, so he's now in my juwel trigon 190 on his own, he's 8" long, he attacked my 15" golden common pleco!

Gorgeous GT :) Your experience is not uncommon as most do eventually end up as solitary residents of a tank :/

Thanks, i found him in my lfs a couple of months ago for £15 and just had to buy him, i was hoping he would be ok with a group of tinfoil barbs and a pleco, he was ok for a month then attacked my barbs so i moved them, and now my pleco. i'm hoping he will be ok in my 190L long term on his own, he seems happy in there.

Yeah 190 liters sounds about right for a singleton and its a nice foot print for him to claim as well. Have you tried really fast fish like Bleeding Heart Tetras? They would be better than the barbs you tried as the Barbs are large growing open water fish where as the Tetras are found nearer the river bank so tend to dart in and out of objects rather than swarming off in a straight line.

I'm Jealous! I WANT THAT FISH!

I always wanted a wet pet Green Terror but everyone i have ever had has been utter wimps! if you ever decide to change up, can i have first dibs on that beauty?! :D

I've not even considered bleeding heart tetra's with a GT, i think my GT will chase them constantly until they become nervous and ill

I have no plans to get rid, if i do, you can have first dibs. He's a great fish with loads of attitude, he even tries to intimidate me by charging and twitching when my face is close to the glass

sounds like you have the same issues as i have with mu oscar... defo try smaller fish as this is all i can keep with Keith and he doesnt bother them. i tried a 9 inch GT in with him and it was killed within 3 days

cracking fish too by the way :good:

Not being funny but if you add another large mature cichlid into a tank that has a solo large cichlid dominating the territory, it will happen every time, If you tried adding a equally large Oscar to a GT tank, the O would be destroyed pretty quick.

You can't just dump in a direct competitor into an established tank, I even had a female 10" green Severum kill a 7" male red Spot when i added to it a few years ago.

I always find adding a smaller cichlid, the bigger fish will chase but usually ignore.

my oscar use to live in peace with several big cichlids with just the odd cichlid chase etc but nothing mega. i removed all the cichlids except the oscar keeping him a few cats and a bgk. straight after doing this he sulked and sat on the substrate in a typical oscar fashion. so i added the gt as company being very cautious about the gt attacking the oscar but it was the reversal of what most people thought with the oscar coming out on top. the tank was 6.5x2x2 with lots of wood to block line of sight which was moved to change the tanks layout so the oscar didnt feel top dog of the tank. the gt was only 3 inches or so smaller than the oscar.

Still when you removed the other Cichlids, the Oscar then claimed the tank, trust me, it will happen if you add in a similar size Jag, Festae or Dovii or something nasty, add it in and the O will go to town on it whilst the fish is still stressed and has no territory to defend.

The only fish i have ever seen instantly fight back was my Clarkii Clown, when i added it to my marine nano that had an aggressive Strawberry Dottyback and a Humbug Damsel, i have never seen Cichlids instantly be what they would be if they were established...they all start off as wimps for a few weeks.

Even my 8" bull male true Red Devil was put into a tank with a load of 3.5" yellow labs that i couldnt catch when i first got him and he just hid in the corner and the labs tore up his fins.

At the mo i'm happy for him to have the tank to himself. I might try him with something small later on. Your oscar sounds the complete oppersite to my oscar, he's a big 8" softy. How big is your oscar?

he is about 13 inches now and was a big softy once..... he just doesnt like other fish/cichlids over the 4-5 inch mark! he lives with a group of arulius barbs that are about 4.5 inches and they eat the food he drops and get so close to his mouth its scary but never goes for them. he also leaves the bgk well alone and 3 humbug cats. he does however chase the 2 rainbow cichlids now and then but nothing comes from it.
