My Vallis is growing great, i am soo surprised as it is my first attempt at real plants. Any how it has reached the surface and is spreading across the tank how can i trim it down

yes you can, but be warned the more you trim the more it grows

Lol, wolf is right! I planted mine two weeks ago and its taken off!
Hope yours looks and grows well! Godluck!

my vallis has taken off big time, didnt expect it. after 3 weeks it has grow about 12 cms in hieght and also i am seeing loads of new leaves coming out of it so i am really pleased just the hieght is too much now.

bloody stuffs like a weed, i pull out about 5 new (rooted) plants a week and at least 4 runners. leaves grow about a foot a week and even go red when they reach the surface. just wont stop growing.

at first i used to carefully prune each leaf. now i just grab a fist full and chop it in one go. a day later it's off again. :S

Lucky you. Vallis Will not grow in my tank. :dunno:
I'm with you :)... spent hundreds on our planted tank - Vallis would die the quickest :)

Glad it's not just me then! :)

It's just so brittle, I've had both the straight (which I have a small piece of currently) and the corkscrew Vallis, neither grows well and over say 6 inches beffore bending and snaping.

I did see some really tall plants at the LFs...I may have to give them a ago...Or does Java sell the large Vallis? I'll have to check.

I myself had trouble growing vallis untill I changed to pool filter sand and used sera florena.
now I can't stop it growing.

ours is about 6ft long now (I kid you not :))

It goes up to the surface in the 65cm tank and across about 1m :D

As wolf said - ours has done loads better in sand.
