I have Sand and use Florena....Vallis and I? It's not meant to be.
do you use florena tablets or liqued?
I have found that one week on liqued and one week on tablets is the best combination, this way nutrients are taken up from both the plant and the roots.

I use both, I got a Sera pack containing co2 stuff, tabs, and other stuff, plus I bought the Liquid Sera plant food.

I've never been able to grow vallis either. It just breaks off and clogs up the filter intake.
I've tried time and time again.

I've never had luck with Vallis - until the other day (don't know what possessed me ?!) I thought I'd buy some for my new tank. Well the stuff has taken off with a vengence and sprouting new plants everywhere
Fingers crossed it stays like that, so the longivity still remains to be seen, but 3 weeks in and they are looking amazing.

Heres my vallis after being planted not long ago....

I still have the original vallis which I planted last July. I don't do anything to it, no special plant food or anything. I just occassionally pull some out when it has spread too much. I have a basic Juwel Rekord96 with no modifications and no extras.

I have thin val which grows like a weed....once a week I chop it back to below the water line then a week later it is drooped across to the front of the tank....meaning it had grown approx 20-25cm in 1 week.....I use a liquid fertiliser once a week and inject CO2.

I used to be careful trimming it as I read if you trim it too heavily it can go into shock and die. I gave up on the careful thing a while ago when I was needing to prune it carefully every 3 days. It sends out runners all the time with runners off runners off runners (if you know what I mean).

I have a real planted tank and as I have explained, it is thriving. I'd love to get some corkscrew val but theres none in my area.

i see what peeps meant when they saifd vallis grows the more you cut it. i took off a good seven inches 2 nights ago now the vallis has gron 2 inches thats an inch a day shock

I trimmed some vallis runners and let them float for a while and they turned completely red. It's awesome. You'll see when I post pics in the Member's section soon.
