Can vac'ing and water change incorporated. as in, when i vac my 5ft tank out, it removes ALOT of water... enough to count as a water drop. So when i top it back up, can this be classed as my weekley water change??

Hi,

It depends really on the percentage of water removed, i do a vac at the same time as water change every time, i use a 10 litre bucket and use up 2 buckets just vacing then another 6 buckets for water change on my 5 foot tank (i seriously need to get a python sorted) :S

i normally remove 1/5th of the water on a water change.... but i was thinking that if im doing that AND vacing in the same week, then thats a hell of a lot of water change for the fish to cope with.

Spooky - just vac and do your water change at the same time like Emma suggested.

I vac and change both my main tanks once per week, removing a 1/3 of the water at the time. I also remove any uneaten food etc with a net each day instead of doing a vac.

Makes things so much easier - but it will be easier still when I swap the play sand for black sand!
 :p

I vac, clean interior glass and do 50% water change every second weekend, adding safe guard and safe water when I do so. other than that only maintenance I do is safe water every inbetween weekend. seems to work for me.
