Hi,

Sorry for ANOTHER post of the V2, but I am having problems with the bubble stop box. I have been filling it with a standard white foam, however this seems to get clogged after a couble of days and the box over flows.

Is this a common issue or do you guys fill the bubble stop box with other things? I have purigen and phosiguard in my canister filter, could i pop this in the bubble stop?

Many thanks,

Michael

Tbh wot i use is just simple polly wool dont use the black sponge as that can get clogged. However its not common with me im affraid. As for the purigen and phos, leave that in the canister it will work better there with the flow rate and wont go all horrible in the bubble stop.

Cheers,

I have left Purigen and phos in the canister. Like you say I dont use the black sponge, jut some white pollywool.
But I am going to my lfs later and gonna get a sponge and see if this on top of the pollywool will catch most of the gunk.

BUMP..

How long does it normally take for your pollywool to clogg, as mine seeems to be every 3 days or so!

Michael

hmm, tbh mine does go brown but tbh i just leave it, just push the wool back down and it should sort it. If now go back to the other way, you could try buying juwel filter pads, but problem is bacteria could start thriving in them  hmm, try my 1st idea first though, oh dont shuv wool up the pipe, that just blocks it as i found out lol.

Cheers for your help N1z,

Doesn't your bubble stop overflow though? Here is a pic of mine at present, it is not yet overflowing due to new pad yesterday, but 2moro it will be...

Right your doing it wrong m8, if you think about it the bubbles will hit the wool then bounce and float up to the top then into the tank, it should be like this:

I will warn you, you some times have to push the wool back in but not often and it should catch most of the bubbles.

do you put anything at the bottom of the overflow box?

Yup, so its fully enclosed, works fairly well, better then the stuff u get with it i found.

Hey,

Situation today:

Thanks Niz this is really useful, so should I pack loads more wool in the box, and around the hose? How often do you have to change te wool, and do you have any issues with clogging and then the skimmer overflowing (had this myself twice!)

UPDATE:

I have filled the whole of the box up with foam, however the water is still trickling out, I have put a bue pipe on the outlet hole aswell as this was leaking water.

Michael

We have exactly the same issue,
And i`ve given up with trying to stop it, as it either causes an over flow or just require more effort than is humanyly possible....

Tbh i guarranty that if you think the wool is dirty, u go to look at the wool thats at the bottom and i find mines still fairly white! But yer mine still trickles out but catches most of the bubbles. TBH i think that its a good skimmer but better in a sump as then you will never get any bubbles in the main tank. I also found this issue with the pipe but mine just brings salt deposits should sort it really. However it wont cause issues also going into the box.

Mike it was leaking from the hole on the tube because the return is not returning enough water or water can't come out fast enough

I did the same thing exactly. Our bubble trap is filled with that wool which we rinse at each water change. We have also put some airline tubing on the outlet at the top to channel the leaking water back into the tank. This stopped it overflowing for us :good:
