V2 Protien Skimmer

hi, ive just invested in a v2 600 skimmer, been running for a day now, done what they said and left it running without collecting anything for the first 24 hours.
today i upped the flow a bit so that the bubbles go up the cone then overflow into the collection cup.
want to do the dry skimming process as it says in the manual, cause the wet process seams to mean that you have to clean it out alot more. thing is, how long should it take until i need to clean it out,i know that it is obvious that its before it overflows, but how long should this be taking? i dont know if the bubble setting is right, at the moment i reckon it would take about 30-40 hours ish, is this to quick? do i need to bubble down a bit? its nice and yellow the stuff that is being skimmed off!!

ive got the same skimmer and i wouldnt even think about starting to tune it in properly until after atleast a month these skimmers take an age to run in, but i really like its results...

i empty mine about once a week the cup is usually aboult half full.

yup what rick said, just set it so it's not overflowing and be prepared to tinker.

we've the v2 400 and had it running on the 30gal since xmas until last week, we were constantly adjusting it, never seemed to find the sweet spot for it. Put it on the big tank last weekend and it's running like a dream now without any changes to the settings, typical!!

how often you need to change it is dependent on the bio load on the tank, the more there is to remove the more mank will collect and the sooner it'll need cleaning out.

if the tanks new and cycling or something like that it's obviously gonna affect the amount that the skimmer has to clear out of the water.

don't worry about how much it's collecting in the right time, worry about what's coming into the collection cup, if it's all yellowy and not too watery then it's doing what it's meant to, if it's watery then it needs turning down, if nothings collecting then turn it up.

definatly hard to get anywhere right at the moment, its either all or nothing collecting in the collection cup, that fills up in a space of around 10 mins,odd.
just have to give it time as ive been told.
is their always protien in the water? i only have 4 chromis, 2 hermits and live rock.
