Uv Steriliser

Afternoon all!

I'm looking at getting a UV Steriliser (http/www.gardensite.co.uk/Internal_Aquarium_UV_Sterilizer_9W.htm?sourcep=base), and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this one?

The other steriliser I am considering is the APS 2000 L/Hr filter with one on it, but I would probably prefere a smaller one to put into a quarantine tank.

Ideas/opinions please

TBH I would only use one in a pond, to help control the algae, i really dont see the point in one in an aquarium unless you are having issues wit algae, but they do also control parasite and bacterial diseases. so its really up to you if you want one

I'm wanting it to deal with any bacterial/parasitical issues that may arise. It's more of a pre-emptive measure than anything else as I have (and am expanding) a SA tank with plenty of cories and a couple of angels, so my typical method of treating with salt and eat isn't going to work if I get another case of Ich etc...

I can tell you that even with a brand new 9w bulb in mine, the UV does nothing to stop algae growth. I still get a little.

I have it purely as an "extra" just in case it really does help towards sterilisation of the water. Even if only slightly.

I have no algae problems, so this won't be used to help that. I'm just aware that I may be buying some sensitive fish in the near future and would rather keep their temporary homes as clean as possible.

I think most people get by without to be honest, buying a filter that had one was purely a bonus, and i only keep the UV running simply becuase its there, however beneficial it might be.
