So I found an awsome deal on an 30 Gallon Marineland Instant Ocean. 50 bucks takes it home for me so I mailed the guy and am waiting on response. He wants to keep the current media (for obvious reasons) so I was thinking I should perhaps use something other then the default marineland filter media. These are just a long strip of plastic that has a then filter sponge ontop and activated carbon inside. I was thinking of along the strip using first a filter sponger (thinking fluval since they have small square sponges that would fit), another less course sponge and lastly a small batch of biomax. The way there arranged might change but this would allow for alot more area for bacteria to grow and also combined with the bio wheel makes for even better bacteria growth area. I have also noticed that when you use the default filter media it sometimes clogs easy to slow the rate making the bio wheel less effective and using this idea will increase the water flow (so I think). Anyone think is a good idea? Also does anyone have any other media suggestions?
