I have been using my diy python for over a year but have just got some small blue emeperor tetra, and they are quick little fish and seem to wanna investigate the hose thats being put in the tank to empty the water, and i nearly lost one sunday.

what do u use to stop little fish being syphoned up. never had a problem but little ones are more brave than brainy I think.

Dan, do you have a wide intake tube on the end of the hose for gravel cleaning? If so you can cut a gauze mesh and jam it high inside to stop the little guys riding the giant flume

Commercial ones have them inside already. Here's a pic of my intake end with strainer......
