I just purchased a 6 month old canister filter (marineland360) that is coming off of a saltwater setup.. I was wondering if I should be doing anything to my equipment before I set it all up? Or can I just hook it up and replace new filter pades etc? Anything I should or shouldn't be doing? Help please

I'm sure someone a bit more knowledgeable will post soon, but if it were me I'd replace the filter media and take it apart, wash the component parts then leave it running into a bucket of tap water for half an hour. Should get rid of all the salt.

Like I say though, someone with some practical experience of it should post soon.

I would just run it in a bucket to try and flush out whatever may be in there and give it a nice rinsing.

Thanks for the replies.. I gave everything a good cleaning and I bought new media and pads etc. This machine is great.. Very quiet! Lady from craig's list said it's less than 6 months old.. New in store I would have spent $200 usd.. I bought used $75 usd! Has made my water noticably cleaner lookin and its only been up and running 8 hours.. I'll never buy a hang on filter again! :)
