Breeding: There have been a limited number of successful spawnings in an aquarium. Females are larger, are paler in coloration, and have a plumper more rounded body, particularly when ready to spawn. Preparation with live foods, and softening the water to mimic spring rains will increase the odds for success. An overturned clay flowerpot or two, or even some PVC pipe, may be offered as a possible spawning location. Parents may be left in the tank after spawning, as they will tend to the brood.

The eggs hatch in approximately two days, and the fry will feed off the yolk sac, which they carry for four days. Upon the fourth day, they will begin eating freshly hatched brine shrimp. In two months the fry will begin swimming in the characteristic upside down fashion of adults.


My female is looking fat andit says here shes ready to spawn.
Itll only be her, a few cories and 2 gouramis in the tank along with the other upside down cats of course...

Just wondering if you guys think i could manage to breed them following the guidelines?

I'd say you should do a lot more research before trying to spawn any fish. You shouldn't only use one source of information as you'll find a lot of things are mis-leading, miss out information or portray rather contrasting views on the same subject. A few google searches on breeding upside down cats might be the best way to determine what you should do.

ive been talking CFC of what i need to do and we've worked out WHAT i need to do.. now its just the how!?

the problem is i have 2 tanks a 7gal and a 12gal.. the 12gal has 2 honey gouramis in it, and 4 cories...

the 7gal has 6 small asian rummynoses... 3 khulis, 2 ottos and a betta.

My problem is that if i get them to spawn in my 12gal, i have been told that the parents will eat the eggs or the cories will... is this true? o could i move the eggs to a diff. location after?

i was told by someone else that the parents should look after the babies... which one is it???

If i could move them to the 7gal that would mean having to move the other fish into the 12gallon, but i cant do that because the betta cant go in with the gouramis. so theers the problem...

But I think I should emphasize the usefulness of a google search... It seems to me that these aren't easy to breed and it seems unlikely that you will succeed unless you can provide the abslotue optimum conditions. I'm not sure if the parents will eat the eggs but I know the other fish will.

hey i did endless google searches... sorry i should of mentioned that. Thats how i was able to talk it over with CFC and get annoyed cos im guna need another lil tank...
