Currently I have had 4 Black Widow Tetras in a 6 gallon aquarium for just over a year and a half, I wanted to move them into a bigger tank and get more fish I was hoping to add some of the below but I don't know if they can all be together:
Dwarf Gouramis
Kribensis'
Siamese Fighter(Male)
Silver Bala Shark
Angel Fish
Sailfin Mollys
Swordtails
Also Which combination of these fish would you recommend for a 20 gallon tank.

Hi, the only ones out of that list that would be suitable would be the male betta, dwarf gourami or possibly the kribs.

Dwarf Gouramis - Should be ok in that sized tank (1m,2f recommended)
Kribensis' - Would be a posibility, see if other people agree with me
Siamese Fighter(Male) - Again would be fine size wise, bettas have their own individual temperaments, some tolerate tankmates whilst others wont.
Silver Bala Shark - Grow to 16" and require a minimum of a 6ft tank for adulthood
Angel Fish - Very unlikely the tank is tall enough at 20gal, angels needs 18" height worth of water as they are a 'tall' fish
Sailfin Mollys - Possibly be ok, do grow quite large for mollys
Swordtails - Also grow quite large, may be ok

I agree with andy on everything but the ratio of dwarf gouramis. I have found males to be little ...sods. I would avoid putting more than one in if you're adding a male... they are very territorial.

So does that mean the kribs would be okay

Kribs should be fine, but be aware that if you get a male/female pair then they will almost definitely become a breeding pair and they are a nightmare when they're breeding so plan the rest of your stock around them.

Alternatively just get a single one...that way you don't have to worry about territorial behaviour so much and will hopefully be ok with bottom dweller fish.

Thanks curiosity for correcting me on the dwarf gouramis :good:

I wasn't 100% sure having not kept them myself, I knew males could be little sods

Be careful putting a betta with a notorious fin nipper like a black widow tetra. You need a plan for what to do with the betta when it gets badly ripped fins from the tetras.

Dwarf Gouramis as said before OR 1 krib OR a Siamese fighter but listen to oldman

Silver Bala Shark-no

Angel Fish-maybe shouldn't though

Sailfin Mollys-maybe but i think they are brackish fish and if you get the betta he may think the sailfin part is another betta and will attack(you could get platys they look similar to regular mollys)

Swordtails-you could

Have you thought about getting different tetras like silver tipped tetras, neon tetras ect, or increasing the numbers you already have.

Good luck though :good:

Let's put this to bed right now. Mollies are not brackish and do fine in pure fresh water. Mollies can tolerate a lot of salt but are not naturally brackish fish. That bit of misinformation seems to be rampant on the web but that does not make it any more true. These mollies are presently living with angels, BNPs and some nice skunk cories.

Thanks for all the advice everyone I have looked more into it and was wondering what you would think of this:

4xBlack Widow Tetra
1xKriensis
2xDwarf Gourami
2xPlaties OR Zebra Danios

In a 20 gallon.

I would up the numbers of the black widows to 6
1 Krib would be fine as there are no other bottom dwellers
2 Dwarfs gouramis, you may get away with 1 male and 1 female if the tank is long enough but 2 females is more likely to work
2 platies sound fine but if you wanted zebra danios then these are a shoaling fish so need to be in a larger group. Preferably 5 or more.

Okay I'll go for the platies then and no there won't be any other bottom dwellers, but I thought black widow tetras are best in groups of 4+, Or is that wrong is it 6+

Any shoaling fish is better in bigger groups... but I personally don't really class 4 as a shoaling group. They probably would be fine... it's just that having seen how shoaling dynamics change for lots of fish increasing the number tends to make them look better and the fish tend to display more interesting behavioursa.

 I have just realised one of my black widow tetras has abit of finrot , I have done a water chamge and treated it. Now this might sound silly but when I add it to my new tank and add other fish will it affect the other fish? Also how long will it take for the tetra to heal?
