My current filter (HOT Magnum 250) I know isnt big enough for the 72 gallon tank. Any suggestions on which filters are good?

I'm buying the tank that was used for turtles....and it comes with a Rena Filstar XP4 filer...COuld this be used for fish also?

It will be big enough if your just moving everything over to the 72 gallon. I (assuming this is a cycled tank) wouldn't mess with the cartridges or pads in your Magnum pump(but keep 'em wet when your moving everything over), or you'll be starting all over with cycling the tank.

An XP-4 is a wonderful filter for fish. It has that 4 number on it because it contains 4 large capacity media baskets like these ones. They are the load in my XP-3 that I use for a 120 gallon tank.

Note: Turtles are filthy compared to most fish. A filter that can handle them can very easily handle fish in the same tank.

Yes I would be moving everything over, including the sand. Just adding more fish and plants. THe 250 would still be OK for this size tank you're saying?

The other filter I have, from what I read would be WAYYYY to strong for a 72 gallon

ny2oz, that XP4 is a great filter for a moderately large tank like a 72 gallon one. It may give a bit more flow than is typically recommended on a tank that size but unless the fish used are ones that require low flows, it will be just fine.
