So I've had a 90l tank for 12months, and on a visit to the local fish shop spotted a bargain of a tank.

So I now have an evo 120 tank, external filter, heater and cabinet.

We filled the tank up a couple of days a go, added some JBL denitrol and ran the filter with no fish.

Tested the water the yesterday and NO2 was present but not NH4 and no NO3.

We added a our fish yesterday and are running the filter the filter out the 90l alongside the new one. Also added the plants and ornaments from the old tank too.

Tested today and had small traces of ammonia, N02 and N03.

I don't think the 90l tank has enough water flow to make it effective.

I am in two minds whether to remove the pads and place them inside the new filter somewhere?

I also know I was still to eager to put the fishes into their new home, but I am checking the water daily to keep it safe.

Any advice welcome.

Putting mature media into your new filter is a big yes as it already contains the bacteria you need. I did this a while ago and withing a week it was cycled.

I thought as much. There was very little water flow out of the smaller old filter. Mainly because the filters were covered in slime, but never changed them as the water in the smaller tank was fairly self sufficient.

I've placed the 4 filter pads out of the old filter into the 2 levels of the new filter where the little white bricks are.

Near to the bottom as pos. the bacteria will grow up the filter that way. I must admit i was very impatiant with my new tank. Introduced fish abit too quickly but water was good and filter working well. Ive heard alot of people say that its very easy to get carried away. Its the bug. :hyper:

yes i am doing the same thing i was told put my mature medai into my new tank filter :D and you can put your fish in strait away :D as long the water is the same temp and ph and all that stuff :) going to move my fish over this weekend :D

any pictures? :D

I am waiting for the water to clear. Suffering from a little hazing. I assume it's bacterial as it was running crystal clear until I added the Filter Start bacteria.

Fish seem happy enough though :)

I am a little confused now.

Test results for 3/1 NH4 0.1, NO2 <0.05 NO3 1
Then yesterday NH4 <0.05 NO2 0.6 NO3 5

I was all set to prepare for a water change today but come home to find clear water, so have just tested it again.

NH4 <0.05 No2 0.2 NO3 1

All that has changed was placing the old filter pads in the new filter to help it populate.

I was hoping to see NO3 increase as yesterdays No2 decreased.

Don't have a clue where my cycle is now. Still haven't turned on my UV sterilisor either.
