Upgraded To Bigger Tank

yep, its just a case of sit it out really isn't it (with water changes like you and the shop say). Am praying my glass cat fish come through this ok, they seem to be the stronger ones at the mo!

It should just be what's known as a 'minicycle' - the bacteria will multiply quite quickly but it takes a while. I had this when I upgraded - ammonia rose, nitrite was fine - although I was fortunate not to lose any fish.

Yeah, it's as if the tank is having a mid life crisis! The bacteria to convert to nitrite are there, but the nitrate ones seem to have vanished. Just done a good sized water change after work as the nitrite had risen further during the day but after the change they have gone right down :) let's see what tomorrow brings!

Just seen the glass catfish eat for the first visible time! Which reassures me a bit :)

update: did a good volume water change last night to remove nitrite. Nitrite up again this morning so another water change followed! All fish looking ok though

Hope the others survive, and I'd get like five more Neons to make them happy.
Are you planning on putting anything else in there?
Is that too many questions?
Keep us posted, this is WAY better than Eastenders, lol.

TekFish :good:

Update for today in the Ruth's fish tank saga! Had measurable nitrites again this morning so performed another water change before going to work. Tested tonight (12 hours later) and no measurable nitrites at the moment. Will test again in the morning. No new deaths and all fish looking ok for the moment! I do intend to replace the tetra I lose once things look to be stable :)

yep, sounds like a mini cycle as suggested, will test again tonight though :)

All tests looking good :) no ammonia or nitrites, nitrate is at 10-20ppm (which is tap waater level anyway) so cycle is over I think! And the fish that I was convinced was going to die, well I can't tell which one he is now! And the new glass cat fish all seem to be adjusting well to their new home.

Happy ending :)

Still looking good here, glass cat fish have quite an appetite now and its great to watch them feed :)

Hoping to replace the two tetra that I lost to make a good school size for them :)
