Could anyone tell me what heater and filter i need?

If that tank is 40×20×20cm, then the volume is 16 liters.

A standard 25W heater or one of the smaller Newattino+ would be ideal.

As for filter, any which is rated to do a 16 liter / 4 US gal / 3.5 imperial gallons should be fine. I personally like the Elite mini for that size of tank.

As above, but just for future reference.

Around 3W of heater per US Gal (4 litres), and a filter that circulates 5-10x the volume of the tank per hour.

3W of heater PER US gal (1 us gal = 4litres) - Eg. 16l tank = 4US Gal = 4x3W = 15W heater. 15W isn't a standard size so the next nearest is a 25W

Try and grab a Hang on Back filter (Eheim do a nice range) to save space in the tank, and so that the current isnt too strong.

Well, when you do get some money, there are loads of cheap spongefilters out there (run off air pump) or very cheap £5-£8) tiny internal filters too.

zooplus is a great website for some needs.

I got a Eheim Liberty HOB filter for £15 off there, worth saving up for.

Hi Guppie

That's good advice above but please also remember the less fish you have in there the easier it'll be to maintain and to keep healthy happy fish.

Also it might be a small tank but it'll also benefit a lot if you put some real live plants in there.

Sorry if you already were well aware of the above, just said it just in case you didn't.
