okay i purchased something called ultra cure px by gel tek. it is for intestinal worms, nematodes, tape worms, flagellates, heximita. it is a gel based liquid that when droped into the tank it forms a liquid ball, and the fish will eat them up, so it will not discolourate the water yay. the guy at the stop said he has never heard of an internal parasite for platy's but he recommended this product. He also said within 4 days it should be cleared out from them then i can purchase new fish. so my question i guess would be..

1. how do i know if they are cleared out?
2. should i take out all the gravel and clean it out along with the toys etc?
3. what do you think of this product?

Never heard of the med to be honest, will do a search on the product.
If you clean the gravel you will lose the benefical bacteria , could result in a mini cycle.
The wormer must have a food taste in it for them to eat it.

Livebearers cant believe he never heard of camallanous worms.

It looks like a very good wormer has the best ingredient in it.
Flubenol can't buy that in the uk now.

Itt says hold back on feeding.

yes it says to wait 24hrs before feeding them. i haven't feed them lastnight so at 9pm tonight it will be exactly 24hrs then i will start the treatments. i'll let you know how it goes. thanks!

I would start the treatment now.
Internal parasites damage the organs.
You have to act fast.

even though it says not to feed them for 24hrs, i should start it anyhow?

okay i will do that, i have to do a water change tomorrow as well and gravil clean up. thanks again i'll update you :)

Wilder quick question before i clean, should i bother taking out all the gravil or is it not necessary? i was just going to vacuum it up and wash the toys down. should i bother with removal of gravil??

I agree with what spooky said.
Good luck.

thanks for the replies, i was just about to remove the gravil and possibly replace it LOL.

well day 2 everything seems to be going okay so far YAY! now i wait a few more days then i can get new fish.

I wouldn't buy new fish yet to you have gotten rid of the parasites.
They can take some time to get rid of them, does it say if you have to retreat after so long.

no it doesn't, it just says to treat for 3 days. how do i know if all parasites are gone anyhow?

They fish should not do long stingy white poo.
Will notice weight gain.
Keep an eye on the anus of the fish to see if its looks red and inflamed or enlarged.

I think I would repeat the med again say in two to three weeks.
