Hi everyone

Well Rosie my guppy gave birth just over 6 weeks ago and looked like she got pregnant again straight away. (small gravid spot appeared very quickly). :S

About two weeks ago she looked fit to bust, large gravid spot and very fat. Every day I check her out and she's still holding on, I can't believe she could get any bigger or go any longer, but still she does.

I not worried about her as she is doing all normal stuff and seems quite happy and eating well. :p

I was just curious, what is the longest time guppy's can be pregnant and does their come a time when I should be concerned, if so after how long, or what signs?? :dunno:

Any stories or ideas welcomed :D

#1 All livebearer females will always haev a gravid spot no matter if they're pregoo or not
#2 she's prolly just full of food

1. does she have an air bubble above the gravid spot?
2. if so is it merged with the gravid spot (has it moved from the top and slide down the back side of the belly to merge with that gravid spot)

Sorry, now I'm gonna show my lack of knowledge completely. What is an "air bubble above gravid spot" can you explain further please

its like a little clear bubble above her gravid spot on the top back of her belly

excellent picture, yes she looks just like that, infact exactly like that but with a bigger gravid spot. It does not look as if it has merged with gravid spot, definately on top of gravid spot. Her "bottom" for want of expression seems to permanently look as if its slightly open as if she is about to poo.

So where does that leave her, can you explain further. ;)

yes okay from the next stage that youre at the little poo spot seems open all the time its because its opening bigger so that she can have the babies which means the fry are coming soon now all you got to wait for is the bubble coming down the backside of her belly thats when she will have them also on the day the gravid spot will turn pink a tip for breeding her would be put her in a spare tank with just her and plants shell have the fry peacefully and none will get eaten after she has had all of them she will be super thin so youll know thats she done but just to make sure leave her in the tank for 24 hours more while feeding everyone especially her because she will be reallly hungry after a big birth any more questions just let me know

Thanks you've explained that all really clearly. :D

I'll keep an eye on her and let you know when she's had her babe's.

Sorry to have sounded so thick, but when she had babies last time she had a gravid spot but was not at all fat, I was not expecting her to give birth at all. However she did cos I actually watched some babies be born. From that one and only experience I never guessed a guppy would get quite this fat.

Thanks again for the detailed descriptions its been very helpful :)

Just thought I'd pop in a quick update.

Rosie has her figure back. Last night she was very preggy and this morn very slim.

So far I have managed to rescue 10 babies which I am very please about, they are now swimming happily in the baby tank. May get some more with any luck because I have lots of plants and hidy places but still very proud of the beautiful 10 I've got.

Well done Rosie :kana:

:D :D :D :D

I read your post last week. I am in the same situation. I guess it is a waiting game! Congrats!!

awwww lovely to have the babies at last

My female Buttercup is enormous and has been for the last 10 days. Good info on the bubble and the gravid spot and the <whispers> poo spot getting bigger. This seems to be happening at the mo so fingers crossed for some babies soon.
