He is doing worse and I found him tangled up in the the filter so I am thinking of ending his misery.

I know how you feel I once did the ice water thing with a cardinal tetra to end his suffering because he had:
Whitespot
Being bullied
Lost ALL of his color

But he lasted a whole day in there even with me continually adding ice. The temp was down to 55 and he still lived so I gave him another chance, but then he died anyways :(

I'm afraid the 'ice water thing' isn't a good way of euthanising fish; nor are freezing or boiling, which are often recommended.

Clove oil is the best way, or decapitation or smashing the skull with a brick, if you're braver than I am :(

Yes I know it was recommended to me then learned about the clove oil and wish id done that :(

What an awful decision to have to make. I'm so sorry :(

It must have been a horrible experience for you, Man of fish :(

I think every fishkeeper should keep a bottle of clove oil in a cupboard somewhere; you never know when you might need it.

Sorry your sword isn't doing well, OP. Can you separate him somehow, perhaps in a breeding trap with a bit of plant so he is at least quiet and on his own?

Right now he is resting in the big cave I have and he is trying to get comfy with my dwarf gouami who is actually letting him stay in it

Ah, that's good; we don't want the poor guy tangled in the filter again :(

I do it too platy lover, but it depends on the fish though. How long I've had it, if I named it, if I could tell it from others etc. Like when my fry died I was sad but didn't cry because I couldn't tell them apart so they didn't have names but when my swordtail died I cried because I'd had him for 4 months and he was an original tank mate :(

I cried the hardest when my first betta Antione died after having him for 3 weeks and when my gorgeous creamsicle lyretail molly died, surprisingly when my crowntail passed I didn't cry. I am going to cry when Fred my clown pleco dies and my dwarf gourami Max dies
