one week on from getting them.

They seem alot happier than they were. I took some of the bigger stones out and removed 2 plants and they are swimming around all the tank with the black neons.

I have put my disasterous water change down to ph shock because it had crashed to 7.4 and the water change would have took it up to 8 in a matter of seconds.

Ph has stayed at 8.0 since which is the ph they have been bred in.

the only thing is they are still very dark. They have definately lightened but not as much as they should. Does it usually take a while for their colour to return after a trauma.

One also still has a sunken belly but seems fine in himself. The only way i can describe it is that he goes in just under his head so he looks like he has a chin and then his body is flat to the tail, not curved like the other fish.

They all have brightly coloured noses and tails.

Do you think I need to take any action. Tbh they are quite nervous of me so i'm trying to leave them alone for as much as possible.

Many thanks

Confidence and colour within the shoal should improve with time, so I'd leave them be. I wouldn't avoid working on them though, as this will only prolong their shyness. Am I right in thinking that you don't have a digital camera? A photo of the sunken belly would be useful

All the best

Ok so its quite similar to this apart from it being a rummynose etc.

Would it be worth soaking some food in garlic. How would I do this

Sorry, yes but its runtishness is similar to one of my rummynoses. Got it off google images because I can't get a pic of my rummynose. he shape of the bely in the pic is very similar to that of my rummynose

Soaking in Garlic is done by crushing a garlic clove, and then placing food into the juce for about half an hour :good: Strain the juce and feed the food.

Loss of colour and paetite, slimming of the belly.... How does the fishes poo look? I wonder if internal parasites may be a possible caurse...

All the best

Pooh is normal.

I went back to the Lfs today and had a nosey at the rummys and there were 3 out of about 15/20 looked the same as Mr Runt. Is it possible that there is maybe a genetically dodgy batch or am I just clutching at straws.

Its just so strange because poohs are ok, he's eating normally, swimming normally etc.

I really don't want to use an anti bac because its quite a new tank and I don't want to mess my cycle up.

Hi Sneezy,

I'm glad the Rummy-Noses are looking better.

One thing, i'd put your plants back in. The Rummy-Noses (and the tetras) will appreciate lots of plant cover, and it will make them feel more secure and they are more likely to colour up too.

Cheers :good:

BTT

it's inevitable with any of the mass produced fish that you get some batches with varying degrees of health, you do get 'runts' so he may just be one,
