My half moon betta passed away last night and I was saddened. My dwarf gourami decided to attack my silver lyretail molly who is in a small hospital tank. I thought dwarf gourami's were docile and shy why would he go after my molly?

im s sorry for your loss you betta will be dearly missed, and for the gourami what size tank is he in , gouramis are territorial so if it is a small tank it could have felt threatened by the molly

My Dwarf male pushes my platies around a little, but doesn't cause any damage. After all, they are gouramis, and the males do tend to be just a bit dominant.

In my experience, dwarf gouramis CAN be aggressive. More so than some other types of fish they have very different personalities- much like bettas can be very different from each other. Mine killed a new guppy in his tank within 30 seconds, but was fine with one particular guppy that he never once bothered.

One suggested way to solve this is to move your plants around- it breaks up the territory so the gourami is less likely to be aggressive. You can also remove him from the tank for a brief period and then put him back, but of course this would be stressful for the fish.

I put two male guppies and have platys in there but he leaves them alone. If I still have he receipt could I bring him back to petsmart and get a refund? I m afraid for my other fishes safety.
