My catfish started swimming around in circles this afternoon, he is now on the bottom of the tank on its side and can not swim upright! Any ideas what is wrong with him? I have taken him out and put him in a bowl as I am worried other fish might hurt him. HELP please.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Does he look bloated.
Does he look pale or darker in colour.

Not sounding to good as once fish show this behavour it can be to late.

185 litres tank
got about 14 fish in it but not sure of the names, someone gave us the tank with the fish and we added 2 corys, and 3 others I can not remember the name! No idea of water, this is my fish tank so not sure - am taking a sample to shop tomorrow to test. Also had a clown loach which seems to have disappeared, can not find him anywhere which is weird! Cory looks fine, no spots, no fins missing, nothing!!

For now I would do an immediate water change and increase aeration.
How long has the clown loach been missing. Rotting fish in a tank can cause bad water quality and desease.

I would put some pics up of the fish you have in the tank so members can say what type of fish they are.

I am worried he may be dead and I can ot find him but how can I know?! Do you mean change ALL the water right now?! He's been missing since Monday.

Best thing to do is remove ornaments and do a gravel vac.
Sometimes dead fish float up when you remove things from the tank.
Do a 40% water change.
Check filter and around floor area to make sure he hasn't jumped out of the tank.

Get water tested.

Swimming in clrcles can be bad water quality, bacterial infection, internal parasites, brain damage, swim bladder, the fish is dying, toxins, ph shock.

ok thanks for your help, should I keep him separate or return him to the tank?

If there no heater he will be better off if the tank once you have preformed a water change.
Match ph and temp.
Need water results as its hard to say what going off without water stats. It could be a number of things.
