Unknown White Growth On Plakat

Can anyone help us identify what this spot is on our Betta Plakats back?
All water parameters are good with our API Test kit.
Frequent water changes since we noticed this about a month ago. There is no one else in his tank at all. We have begun treatment with Melafix and Pimafix. Only have been doing half of the dosage, only because we didn't know how he would react to it. Water is at 83 degrees and its a 10 gallon tank. Aquaclear 20 filter (no carbon due to meds). He is acting perfectly normal and he eats his NLS twice a day. Not lethargic and is very interactive.

I've heard from other members on this forum that Melafix and Primafix shouldn't be used on Anabantoids. Something about damaging the labyrinth organ.

This is correct, I have also read that anything with "...fix" should not be used on Bettas, so I recommend you stop treatment straight away, do a Water Change and add carbon to the filter to remove all traces of the medication.

Can you tell us more about his tank please:

• What decor has it in there?  Ornaments, plants and hardware.
• What substrate?
• What size is it?
• What is the filtration and how do you clean it?
• Has anything been added or removed in the time you have seen this occurring?
• Pictures of the tank would be good 
  

My initial thoughts are that it looks like an injury sight that has healed this way.  When you first noticed it, was it different in any way?
 
In my book on fish health, the only other things possible are:

• Fish Pox, this is a virus and thus cannot be treated.  It states that it is unsightly but does not seem to harm the fish.  However, although this is the only thing I noticed could be possible, it seems to occur mainly in cold water species, in particular Koi.

At this stage until we have more info., I would still be tempted to say it is a possible injury

Anything with the word "fix" after it contains tea tree oil that coats the labyrinth organ in bettas and should not be used.  
 
 
OP -- Your boy looks really happy and healthy besides that one spot.  My recommendation is to stop medications for two reasons, 1 - the meds you are using are not suitable with your fish, 2.- there is nothing that those medications will do for what is wrong with your betta.
I am not for sure what is causing the scale deformity but it doesn't appear to be bothering your boy.  Watch it to make sure it doesn't grow.  It might be scar tissue from a wound (I have a DTPK male who has two places on the side that look kinda similar that were from injuring himself on something in a tank from a previous owner) and thus no worry at all.  The other thing is that it could be a tumor which is why I told you to watch and make sure it doesn't grow.

You're right, Wildbetta, it is explained in the thread I attached to my post. Since the OP has used Melafix in a diluted form, my intend was to give her that infomation to ease her mind.
